Let the action begin at the French Open! In this first-round match, Spain’s Roberto Bautista-Agut faces off against the United States’ Brandon Nakashima in an effort to keep his Parisian run alive.

In addition to their 14-year age gap, 66 places separate the two players in the ATP rankings! Indeed, at 38 years old, Roberto Bautista-Agut has been on the tour for many seasons and will be competing in his 13th French Open this year. But the player who began his professional career in 2005 has not gone past the fourth round in either 2016 or 2017 and seems to have struggled significantly in recent years. After being eliminated in the second round of the Valencia Challenger last week, the Spaniard has yet to string together two consecutive wins this year. 

Brandon Nakashima, for his part, should enter this match with a psychological edge, as he previously defeated the Spaniard 6-4, 6-0 in the round of 32 at the Rome Masters 1000 in early May. Although he has also failed to string together two consecutive wins on clay this year, he showed great promise early in the year by reaching the final in Brisbane and the semifinals in Acapulco in February.
