Things really do start to get serious at the Indian Wells event on Wednesday. On the ATP side of things, Cameron Norrie will be looking to make the quarter finals of this event for the fourth time. The British competitor, who won this prestigious prize back in 2021, is up against Rinky Hijikata. On paper, this is clearly a very winnable match for Norrie, who should be full of confidence following his win over world number six Alex De Minaur.
Norrie Australian opponent probably won't go down without a fight, even if he does eventually lack the quality to come out on top. Including qualifying, Hijikata has now won five matches in Indian Wells, and it's fair to say that the world number 117 is giving his all. He has now had two very tough three-set matches, which could (and probably should mean) that he lacks the freshness to cause an upset here. Then again, stranger things have happened on these courts.

Make no mistake about it, Rinky Hijikata is currently outplaying his rank, while he battle superbly well to defeat Alexander Bublik in three sets last time out. However, that required a big effort and I'm not sure how much that has left in the tank, which is worrying given that the Aussie is now up against an in-form Cameron Norrie. The British player made light work of defeating Alex De Minaur in straight sets last time out, and that win tells me that he means business.
After all, we know that Norrie comes alive in Indian Wells. He won this event in 2021 and has twice reached the quarters. I'm betting on him to do the same in 2026 by beating Hijikata in straight sets.
