The top division of Spanish soccer returns to our screens on Friday, and we'll be viewing action that comes our way from the beautifual Basque Country, where Real Sociedad take on Girona at Reale Arena. Neither team has been in particularly great form this season, with both sitting outside of the top half. The hosts come into this fixture having lost to Alaves last weekend, failing to score for the first time since early October. They've now lost each of their last two league games, which has left Sergio Francisco's men sitting in a displeasing 14th position.
Worse off than the hosts, the Girona boys are currently inside the relegation zone, following what a poor effort away against a newly promoted Elche team last weekend. That 3-0 defeat followed a pair of 1-1 ties against Betis and Real Madrid. If Michel Sanchez's men can rediscover the level of form that saw them pick up those encouraging ties, then they'd definitely have a chance of getting a result in San Sebastian, but if they turn up in last week's mood, they'll likely return home with nothing.

Given that the hosts are missing a few useful players at present, someone like Brais Mendez really needs to step up in an offensive sense, and it's fair to say that the 28-year-old has looked hungry of late, shooting plenty. Last weekend's game against Alaves was the first time in five matches that the Spaniard failed to work the opposing keeper.
In his last five starts, Mendez has taken nine shots, registering five shots on target, so we know he's a threat, and against an out-of-form team like Girona, a team that seemingly cannot keep it tight at the back, he should fancy himself to do some damage. I'll be betting on him to work the visiting keeper at the very least.
