It's Russia vs Australia at the ATP event in the Spanish capital of Madrid on Saturday. Pavel Kotov takes on the higher-ranked Jordan Thompson. Now, the Aussie is currently less fancied than his Russian opponent in the early betting, but I'd argue that the world number 33 should get a little more respect here. Sure, Kotov comes off the back of a good win against Ramos, but this is a much tougher assignment, while Thompson may have lost to Casper Ruud last time out, but losing to the world number six isn't something to be too ashamed of, and we really shouldn't dismiss him on that basis alone.

Jordan Thompson probably isn't at his brilliant best on clay, but he's no slouch either, as he's shown in recent weeks. At the ATP event on clay in Houston, USA, he got the better of both Kovacevic and Wu, while in Barcelona last week, he beat Spaniard Jaume Munar, which was impressive. A repeat of that display here would likely see him through. OK, he lost to Ruud last time out, but I'm not too put off by that. Ruud is currently one of the best two or three clay-court players on the planet. This is a much easier task. Kotov has a recent habit of losing to players ranked above him, so don't be surprise if the Aussie gets the job done here at nice odds. Our Prediction: Jordan Thompson to Win.
