One of the more intriguing matches due to take place at Roland Garros on Friday sees Nuno Borges and Andrey Rublev lock horns for the fifth time as professionals. When these two players have previously met, it is the Russian who has been dominant, winning each of his four matches against Borges, though the Portuguese likely has his best chance of defeating Rublev on a clay court, so this may not be a foregone conclusion.
Borges has looked in good shape since arriving at the French Open, winning his first-round match in straight sets, before beating Miomir Kecmanovic by three sets to one. Given that Rublev has dropped sets against two lesser players, it wouldn't be too surprising in Borges competed a little more than the early odds suggest. After all, he went down fighting when the pair last met on clay, losing by two sets to one in Monte Carlo earlier this year.
