Naomi Osaka of Japan will tussle with the upset-minded Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia for a place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Canadian Open.
Osaka has shown glimpses of her old form in this tournament, more so in her recent victory over fellow Grand Slam champion Jelena Ostapenko 6-2 6-4 in the third round. Sevastova’s Cinderella run at the Canadian Open continues after she dethroned Jessica Pegula in a scintillating comeback 3-6 6-4 6-1 on Friday. The 35-year-old Sevastova played marvelously in the second and third sets, frustrating Pegula with a variety of shots she never expected from the Latvian. Sevastova has now won three consecutive three-set matches after also downing Ajla Tomljanovic 6-3 3-6 6-4 and Magda Linette 6-3 4-6 6-4 in the previous two rounds.
