Former Wimbledon Open finalist Eugenie Bouchard is scheduled to play Moyuka Uchijima of Japan in the first round of the qualifying phase of the 2024 Canadian Open. Bouchard will attempt to secure her place in the main draw of Canada Open, a WTA 1000 event that is expected to draw top-ranked players in women’s tennis. It has been a long time since Bouchard made some noise on the tennis court. The last time Bouchard was winning matches and raising trophies left and right was in 2004, the year she made it to the semis of the Australian and French Open and the finals of the Wimbledon Open. After that, Bouchard’s career spiraled down because of injuries and the lack of focus because of other commitments outside tennis. On the other hand, Moyuka Uchijima is an up-and-coming 22-year-old tennis player from Japan who just reached the main draw of both the French and Wimbledon Open this year. Uchijima represented Japan in the Olympics, but her women’s singles campaign saw a quick ending after bowing to Elena Svitolina of Ukraine 6-2, 6-1 in the first round.
