The Montreal Canadiens and Florida Panthers, two Atlantic Division rivals, will open their regular-season series Tuesday night at Amerant Bank Arena.
The Panthers play their final game before hosting the New York Rangers in the 2026 Winter Classic on Friday. This could affect their focus for Tuesday’s game. However, with the Eastern Conference standings so tight, every point is crucial.
Paul Maurice’s team has significantly improved its position in the standings this month, losing only three of the last 11 games. Florida is enjoying its best form of the season, and more good news arrived on Sunday when Matthew Tkachuk joined the team for practice for the first time this campaign.
Tkachuk looks poised to enter the lineup soon, but Tuesday’s game likely comes too early for him. His continued absence is great news for Montreal, although the Panthers have proven this season that they can cope with various injury setbacks.
The Canadiens have also dealt with several injuries this season, but they have remained competitive. Entering Tuesday’s matchup, Martin St. Louis’ side holds a five-game point streak. Since Nov. 20, Montreal has lost back-to-back games only two times. They will look to return to winning ways after a painful 5-4 shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night.
