The Minnesota Lynx visit the Dallas Wings on May 16, Thursday, at the College Park Center.
A heavily-revamped Wings squad will take on a veteran Lynx team that finished with a 30-10 record last season. The Lynx eventually made it to the 2024 WNBA Finals, losing to the New York Liberty in a win-it-all Game 5. On the other hand, the Wings had a 9-31 slate, which landed them the top pick in the recent draft.
This takes us to Paige Bueckers, the spitfire guard that the Wings selected with their first overall pick. Bueckers averaged 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.1 steals during her senior year for the UConn Huskies, and went on to win the national championship.
Bueckers joins a rebuilt Wings roster that features mainstay Arike Ogunbowale and newcomers Tyashi Harris and DiJonai Carrington. Ogunbowale, who averaged 22.2 points and 5.1 assists last season, is coming off her fourth straight All-Star selection.
This is a guard-oriented Wings lineup, but they'll go up against the Lynx stronghold. Napheesa Collier, the runner-up for the MVP award last season, produced 20.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 1.4 steals. Collier went on to bag the Defensive Player of the Year plum, solidifying her status as a two-way player in the league.
