21-year-old Lucie Havlickova will get her first ever taste of the US Open main draw on Tuesday, when she'll attempt to defeat a top-100 player in Anna Bondar, who will be hoping to reach the second round of this Grand Slam for the third year on the bounce. To do that, she may need to improve on her latest efforts, though.
Anna Bondar comes into this first-round match as the favorite, which is not hugely surprising. After all, she is the higher-ranked player. However, her recent efforts haven't been outstanding, while she's not averse to losing to lower-ranked players. Against an up-and-comer who is clearly enjoying the Flushing Meadows conditions, a player who may be better adjusted after having three matches to get used to things, the Hungarian could easily struggle a little more than the early odds would suggest, leaving her opponent to go down as a value pick.
