In a clear exaggeration meant to prove a point, some Mexican league enthusiasts on social media say that watching Toluca reminds them of Messi's Barcelona. This is clearly a compliment to how well the team coached by Antonio Mohamen plays, with chemistry between them, and with players in their prime who play with such conviction that Toluca has snatched the spotlight from América, as the "Red Devils" have gone from trophy to trophy.

In a season full of victories, following their championship at the Nemeiso Díaz Stadium against América, Toluca is in the midst of its best winning streak of the season. After the 0-1 loss in the capital against Cruz Azul, Toluca won the next six matches, incredibly scoring three or more goals in each game.

In Liga MX, on Matchday 11, Toluca defeated Mazatlán 3-1 with goals from Herrera, Bruno Méndez, and a penalty from Paulinho. Four days later, they were in Carson, back in the USA after playing four League Cup matches this year.
