Learner Tien of the United States is set to start his grass-court season against Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan in the first round of the 2025 Boss Stuttgart Open.
Tien, who has lost his last three matches on clay, will now begin his grass-court campaign in Stuttgart. The 19-year-old American had struggled adapting to the playing conditions on clay, winning only 3 of 10 matches on the red dirt this year. Nevertheless, it was a learning experience for a still-improving Tien, who is now preparing for his first ATP main tour campaign on grass.
As for Nishioka, he enters the Boss Open aiming to end a five-match win drought that saw him go winless during the clay-court season and drop his first grass-court match this year. The Japanese lost his first-round matches 2025 Italian Open and the French Open before falling to Adrian Mannarino of France 7-6(1) 3-2 ret.at the 2025 Birmingham Challenger.
