At the event taking place in Spain's capital of Madrid, also known as the Madrid Open, there's an all American affair set to unfold on Thursday, when up-and-comer Learner Tien will take on the more seasoned campaigner that is Marcos Giron. As the higher-ranked player, Marcos Giron is the early favorite in the betting, though I take issue with that. Don't be surprised if the market adjusts before this one begins, put it that way. 

Learner Tien will be playing at this tournament for the first time in his short career, but he reached the semi-finals of the boys French Open last year, beating the hugely promising talent that is Joao Fonseca in the process, so he probably has enough game to seriously compete with a relatively weak clay-court player such as Giron. The 31-year-old has played in three Madrid Opens before, but he's never made it beyond the second round, while he exited in the first round last year. He's also a player with rather poor recent clay-court form to his name, which doesn't exactly bode well.
