The Monte-Carlos Masters 1000 opens this week. In the first round, Serbian Laslo Djere takes on top-15 Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas. Laslo Djere has already tried his luck in 3 clay-court tournaments this season. He won his first-round match in Buenos Aires against Marin Cilic, then lost to world No. 136 Andrea Vavassori in the next round. He followed a similar pattern at Rio de Janeiro, losing in the second round to world No.57 Dusan Lajovic, before failing to progress beyond the first round in Marrakech a few days ago against Fabio Fognini (world No.100). The Serb also tried his luck at the Miami Masters 1000, but was stopped in the round of 32 by world top 20 Karen Khachanov. For his part, Stefanos Tsitsipas kicks off his clay-court season at this tournament in Monaco. Although he didn't get past the first round in Miami against Denis Shapovalov, the Greek won his first 2 rounds at Indian Wells last month, notably stopping world No. 21 Frances Tiafoe in the second round. Semi-finalist at the Los Cabos tournament in February, Stefanos Tsitsipas should arrive highly motivated at this tournament, which he knows well, and much more confident than his opponent of the day.
