The New York Liberty (11-6) visit the Los Angeles Sparks (5-12) on July 2, Wednesday, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
It has been a very tough recent stretch for the Liberty. The defending champions have lost five of their last seven games, including two defeats to the Phoenix Mercury.
Much of these losses could be attributed to the absence of starting center Jonquel Jones, who has missed the last five games. Jones, an All-Star last season, is averaging 12.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 blocks this year.
It also didn't help that Leonie Fiebich, also a starter, left last June 10 to fulfill her EuroBasket duties. Fiebich is reportedly returning this week, but Jones might need more time to recover from her ankle injury.
A cause for optimism for the Liberty is that their next opponents are struggling too. The Sparks have also lost five of their last six games. Four of those defeats came with an average losing margin of 20.3 points.
Cameron Brink and Rae Burrell are still listed on the Sparks' injury report. Meanwhile, Jones and Annika Soltau are expected to miss the game for the Liberty.
