The Los Angeles Sparks visit the Golden State Valkyries on May 16, Thursday, at the Chase Center.
It's the first official game of the Valkyries as the WNBA's newest team. The team has three rookies and five other players who only have below four years of experience. This is a very young group, making it intriguing to watch them.
However, they're going up against a Sparks squad with multiple quality names on their roster. Kelsey Plum is the first one in the list. Acquired via a blockbuster three-team trade, Plum is coming off three straight All-Star selections. She averaged 17.8 points and 4.2 assists last season, leading the Las Vegas Aces to a semifinals appearance.
The Sparks also have another offensive catalyst in Rickea Jackson. The sophomore forward averaged 13.4 points and 3.9 rebounds during her rookie year, and it seems that she's primed for a bigger year.
Of course, the Sparks are still waiting for the return of frontcourt stalwart Cameron Brink in June. But with Plum leading the way, they have the advantage against the young Valkyries.
The Sparks also won their preseason matchup against the Valkyries, carving out an 83-82 victory in the latter's home arena.
