At the time of writing, the American is the slight underdog here, though I think she could easily be a narrow favorite against Kimberly Birrell. Sure, the Australian got through that first-round match, but she was far from convincing, so it's not too hard to see her faltering against a player who has played three matches in Austin already, winning each match in straight sets.
Dolehide has had more time to get used to courts in Austin, and clearly she's enjoying the conditions, beating Lulu Sun decisively last time out. That effort tells me that she's ready for this type of test, and it also tells me that she's a little more ready to pass a test of this nature than the early market suggests.
