The players of the season have now gathered in Japan for the 2025 edition of the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo! In the first round, Australia's Jordan Thompson and America's Brandon Nakashima will face each other in front of the Japanese crowd as they attempt to reach the round of 16.

The last few weeks have been difficult for Jordan Thompson. He arrives in Japan with three consecutive defeats and no fewer than five defeats in his last six matches. Having not won a single set since August 28, when he lost in the second round of the US Open to Adrian Mannarino, the Australian has little hope of qualifying for the next round.

Brandon Nakashima, on the other hand, seems to be performing better in the tournaments he is participating in. Although he seems to be struggling to confirm his form in the second rounds, the 24-year-old American has managed to win the first round of 100% of his hard-court tournaments in recent weeks. A quarterfinalist at the Washington tournament, Nakashima has nevertheless continued his winning streak recently, winning his first two rounds in Chengdu this week to reach the semifinals against Alejandro Tabilo.
