Two of the WTA's biggest and best will clash in Rome on Wednesday. In the ancient city, this is a real gladiatorial contest, between two huge names. Jessica Pegula arrives ahead of this quarter-final having won six out of six sets since landing in the Italian capital, and the way in which she brushed aside Anastasia Potapova last time out tells us that she's got her sights set on going all the way. Of course, defeating Iga Swiatek requires more, but the American has a good recent record against the Pole, which bodes well.
Now down as the world number three, Iga Swiatek hasn't had the most fluent 2026, but she's found her feet in Rome, especially after getting that first match against Caty McNally out of the way. Having beaten each of her last two opponents in straight sets, the three-time winner of this tournament should be feeling confident, though she will have to overcome what could be a slight mental block given that she's lost three of her last four against Pegula, who is highly unlikely to go down without putting up a serious scrap.

Our Jessica Pegula vs Iga Swiatek Prediction
This is a hugely intriguing clash, so much so that the only real surprise will be if either player wins easily. We're talking about the world number five and the world number three, both of whom have looked in very decent condition in the Italian capital, which means we should witness a real hard-fought battle.
Based on the early lines, though, it's hard not to conclude that Jessica Pegula is a little generously priced. The US competitor has a promising recent record against Swiatek, while she's yet to drop a set in Rome, so don't bank on her going down without a serious fight.
Our Jessica Pegula vs Iga Swiatek Pick: Jessica Pegula +1.5 Set Handicap.
