After her logical victory over Karolina Pliskova, Jessica Pegula faces American Ashlyn Krueger tonight in the round of 16 of the Toronto WTA tournament. The world No. 6 and No. 3 seed will be one of the favorites to take the trophy. Very much at ease in her previous match, she won easily against the Czech in less than 1h30 (7-5, 6-4). She is gradually making her way back onto the WTA circuit and has shown some fine qualities on grass, notably in Berlin, where she won the title against the Russian Kalinskaya. Since June, Jessica Pegula has taken part in 5 tournaments, including the Olympic Games. She's slowly getting back into hard court, and this WTA event in Toronto will give her the chance to get back into the swing of things. In the next round, she'll face either Azarenka or Stearns. Opposite her, 20-year-old Ashlyn Krueger was very effective in the first two rounds, defeating Italy's Cocciaretto 6-3, 6-2, then dominating local Canadian and world No.25 Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 6-2.
