Alexander Zverev conceded a set for the first time at the 2026 French Open, but that would not stop him from posting a 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win over Quentin Halys.
Zverev improved to 16-4 on clay this year, and more importantly, moved four more wins away from winning a Grand Slam title in a suddenly wide-open Roland Garros following the early exits of Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic and injury to Carlos Alcaraz.
Jesper De Jong grinded out a five-set win over Karen Khachanov 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 to book his first round-of-16 appearance in a Grand Slam tournament.
De Jong, who made it into the main draw as a lucky loser entry, is 14-9 on clay this year. The Dutch also defeated former French Open champion Stan Wawrinka and Francisco Cina in what has been his best run at a Grand Slam level.
Quick Match Analysis: Alexander Zverev is 2-0 vs. Jesper De Jong in their head-to-head series. The last time they played each other, Zverev dispatched the Dutch in four sets at last year’s French Open.
Unless De Jong delivers a better game plan, Zverev will only repeat what happened a year ago, cruising through to a comfortable win.

Our Jesper De Jong vs Alexander Zverev Prediction
Having lost only 4 service games out of 8 breakpoint situations he faced in this tournament so far, Alexander Zverev should easily destroy the 7.5-game handicap if he delivers this kind of serving dominance in his match against De Jong.
Nothing against De Jong, but his victories over a 40-year-old Wawrinka, an experienced Cina, and a wobbly Khachanov don’t change the fact that he has a slim chance of taking down the new betting favorite at Roland Garros.
Zverev will not allow this rare opportunity to slip away. He will go out there, going for a quick kill against De Jong as he tries to save precious energy for tougher battles ahead.
Our betting prediction for Alexander Zverev vs. Jesper De Jong: Alexander Zverev -7.5 games
