American rising star Alex Michelsen of the United States will take on the Czech Republic’s young star Jakub Mensik in the battle of two promising NextGen talents in the second men’s singles match on Day 1 of the 2025 Laver Cup on Friday.

Unlike Michelsen, the Czech picked up a win at the US Open, beating Nicolas Jarry 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round before falling to Ugo Blanchet in five sets 6(2)-7 6(5)-7 6-3 4-6 6(7)-7. At the recent Davis Cup tie, Mensik helped the Czech Republic advance to the next round after beating Frances Tiafoe of the United States 6-1 6-4 in rubber 5.
