Iga Swiatek of Poland will tussle with Catherin McNally of the United States in the second round of the ladies’ singles tournament at the 2025 Wimbledon Open on Thursday.
Swiatek cruised to the second round at Wimbledon following a breezy win over Polina Kudermetova 7-5 6-1. Swiatek faced a bit of a challenge from Kudermetova in the first 10 games of the match but still managed to prevent a tiebreaker after coming through with a clutch break in the 12th game of the set. The complexion of the match completely changed in the next set as Swiatek ratchet up her level of play to overwhelm Kudermetova.
McNally swept Jodie Anna Burrage of Great Britain 6-3 6-1 to capture her first career win at the Wimbledon Open. It was a sweet revenge for McNally, who got eliminated by Burrage 1-6, 3-6 in the first round of the Wimbledon Open last year. McNally is 24-13 on grass.
