Team Italy and Team Great Britain will clash on Sunday in Pool B of the 2026 WBC at Daikin Park in Houston. Italy opened their campaign in a dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon with an 8-0 win over Brazil. Left-hander Sam Aldegheri of the Los Angeles Angels produced a stellar performance, throwing 4 2/3 scoreless innings and striking out eight batters. A win on Sunday will put them in a great position, in a group that also features heavyweights, the USA and Mexico.
Great Britain, on the other side of the grass, will know that it will be all over for them if they lose against Italy. They started their campaign with an 8-2 loss against Mexico before losing 9-1 to the United States. But don’t let the shorelines deceive you. The Brits were resilient against the USA, leading 1-0 for half of the game before collapsing in the fifth inning. Despite the loss, they’ll be motivated by this performance to cause trouble for the Italians.

The Italians are the bookmakers’ favorites to win and keep up with the USA and Mexico in Pool B. This will only be the second time they’re meeting, with their last clash ending in a thrilling 11-10 win for Great Britain at the 2023 European Championship. The Brits showed amazing resilience after collapsing late to lose their first two matches. They’ll certainly fancy their chances against the Italians, who are yet to show what they can do against the tournament’s ‘big boys.’ However, the Italians will know that going 2-2 in the group stage won’t be enough to advance to the quarterfinals. Still, their experience and MLB veterans should help them edge it on Sunday.
