A day after capturing the biggest win in his career, Francisco Comesana will battle Alexander Muller of France on Saturday, with the winner moving on to the championship match of the 2025 Rio Open. In a week dominated by shocking exits of top-ranked players on the ATP and WTA Tour, the Rio Open produced perhaps the biggest stunner as No.85 ranked Francisco Comesana delivered a 4-6 6-3 6-4 upset win over world’s No.2 and No.1 seed Alexander Zverev of Germany in the quarterfinal. Comesana, who has survived three consecutive three-set matches, made the upset possible by winning 40 points on his first serves and conceding three service breaks. It would have been the All-Argentine semifinals at the Rio Open if not for Alexander Muller of France, who topped Francisco Cerundolo 7-5, 6-1. Muller, who had also knocked over Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Argentina Open champ Joao Fonseca, garnered most of his points from his serves, notching 31 points of his first serves while conceding one break point conversion.
