by Paul Tamayo in EuroBasket Picks
Sweden takes on Finland on Wednesday, August 27, at the Tampere Deck Arena in Finland.
It's a home game for Finland, a big energy booster for star forward Lauri Markkanen and company. They're coming off a great summer, going undefeated in their four preparation games ahead of the tournament.
The caveat is that Finland only went up against two teams, Belgium and Poland. Those are not considered perennial contenders for this year's EuroBasket. Still, a win is a win.
Markkanen is the only Finnish player with NBA experience on the team. But look out for young gun Miikka Muurinen. The 6'9 young gun averaged 16.9 points during the 2023 U16 European Championship, and is a consensus five-star recruit in the class of 2026.
Meanwhile, Sweden went 1-4 in their preparation games. They're not considered contenders this year, and are slotted at the bottom four of the latest FIBA EuroBasket power rankings.
Miami Heat sophomore guard Pelle Larsson will lead the charge for the Swedish. Larsson appeared in 55 regular season games for the Heat last year, and started in eight. He could be a rising star in the 2025 EuroBasket.
Also look out for key names like Melwin Pantzar and Simon Birgander for Sweden.

Our Sweden vs Finland Prediction
Sweden is one of the underwhelming rosters in this year's EuroBasket. They've also lost four of their five preparation games, which isn't a good sign.
On the other hand, Finland went undefeated in four preparation games. NBA star Lauri Markkanen is in his peak form, so expect him to put up at least 20 points every game. Look out for young Finnish Miika Muurinen as well. Our prediction for the Sweden vs Finland match is: Finland (-11.5) cover the spread.Grab an extra $300 for your Sweden vs Finland wager!
