For my dollars, Gael Monfils should be getting more respect in the early betting. Sure, this will be the first time that the French player has played competitively in 2026, but the fact that he's chosen to return in Auckland is significant. Monfils is the defending champion of this event and as such, the veteran is worthy of a shorter price.
It also bodes well for the Frenchman that Marozsan is struggling for form at the start of this new season. The Hungarian looked out of sorts when losing to a lower-ranked player at the first time of asking in Hong Kong a week ago, so do not be surprised if he comes up short against a player that clearly likes the conditions in Auckland.
