The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is coming to an end! This Saturday, Egypt and Nigeria will face off for third place. The match will take place at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca. Both nations will need to pick themselves up after their defeats in the semifinals. The Pharaohs did not shine against Senegal. With very few chances, they logically fell to the Lions of Teranga (1-0). This was a huge disappointment for Mohamed Salah, who was aiming for his first major title with his national team. The team coached by Hossam Hassan will try to reassure themselves a little by finishing on the podium.
Nigeria will not take this lying down. They are considered one of the most impressive teams in the competition. The Super Eagles came very close to defeating host country Morocco in the semifinals. However, they were defeated in a penalty shootout. Led by a fiery attack featuring Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen, Eric Chelle's men are determined to finish the tournament on a high note. They will try to regain their best form to take third place in this AFCON.

Egypt - Nigeria: Form Analysis
There were high expectations for Egypt in this 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The most successful nation in the history of the competition, Egypt, nevertheless bowed out in the semi-finals. Everything had started well for the Pharaohs, who easily finished top of Group B. They needed only two wins, against Zimbabwe (2-1) and South Africa (1-0), to achieve their goal. The team coached by Hossam Hassan then came close to a major disappointment in the round of 16 against Benin.
They had to wait until extra time to assert their status (3-1 a.e.t.). In the next round, they showed their best form to defeat defending champions Côte d'Ivoire (3-2). But Egypt failed to build on that success. In the semi-finals, they were content to defend against Senegal and only managed one shot on target in the dying moments, after Sadio Mané had opened the scoring. It was too late, however, to hope for a comeback (1-0).
Nigeria only lost on penalties to Morocco in the semifinals of this 2025 AFCON.
For Nigeria, this competition is very encouraging for the future. They were not necessarily among the favorites after being knocked out in the final round of the African zone playoffs for the 2026 World Cup last November. However, the Super Eagles quickly changed their status in this 2025 AFCON, winning all three of their Group C matches and scoring nearly eight goals.
They continued their winning streak in the knockout stages, giving Mozambique (4-0) and Algeria (0-2) no chance. It was a different story in the semi-finals against host country Morocco. Éric Chelle's men struggled to find a way through the Atlas Lions' iron defense, but still managed to take the game to a penalty shootout. Nigeria lost the shootout and saw their hopes of reaching the final dashed.

Egypt & Nigeria Squad Analysis
Egypt will not have a full squad for this third-place playoff in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Mohamed Hamdi is out for the rest of the competition, while Hossam Abdelmaguid is suspended after receiving a yellow card against Senegal. The Pharaohs still have what it takes to finish on the podium in this tournament.
This will most certainly require a great performance from their two attacking stars, Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush. The former has scored four goals in this competition, while the latter has two. Having failed to make a decisive impact in the semifinals, they will need to pull out all the stops this Saturday afternoon.
Both nations have plenty of attacking talent at their disposal.
As for Nigeria, Cyriel Dessers is out with an injury. To make matters worse, Calvin Bassey was booked in the semi-final against Morocco and is suspended for the third-place play-off. On the bright side, Éric Chelle will welcome back Wilfred Ndidi, who was suspended in the previous round. His absence was felt in the Super Eagles' midfield.
Nigeria's attack is also of high quality. With three goals and four assists in this AFCON, Ademola Lookman will be eagerly awaited, as will Victor Osimhen. Substituted just before the penalty shootout against Morocco, the Galatasaray striker has scored four goals in this tournament.

Our Egypt vs Nigeria Prediction
Nigeria had a very good 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. It was only after a penalty shootout that the Super Eagles fell short of reaching the final against Morocco. They will be looking to bounce back in this third-place match to finish on the podium, and they have what it takes to do so against Egypt. The Pharaohs did not shine against Senegal in the previous round. They are likely to encounter further difficulties this Saturday afternoon.
