A new-look Brazil is set to wrap up its World Cup qualifying campaign. Sitting 10 points behind Argentina in the standings, the Seleção enters this fixture in third place, one spot below their opponent: Ecuador.
To say this match is important for Carlo Ancelotti’s debut would be an understatement. A win is not just hoped for, it’s expected, as Brazil looks to send a strong message under its new head coach. With only one victory in their last four outings, it’s time for the Brazilians to reassert their dominance on the South American stage.
Vinícius and company will be under the spotlight from the opening whistle, especially after their last international window ended in a humbling 4-1 loss to Argentina.
Ecuador, meanwhile, is in much better form than its high-profile opponent. Although their most recent match ended in a draw in Chile, La Tricolor has quietly become one of the standout teams of the qualifiers.
They’re unbeaten in their last seven matches and have won three of their last four at home. Under head coach Sebastián Beccacece, Ecuador is coming into this clash well-prepared and hungry for revenge after a narrow 1-0 defeat in the first leg in Curitiba.
Securing second place in the group will take something special, but Ecuador looks ready to go for it Thursday night.
