At the WTA event in Linz, there are four matches due to take place on Friday. Four quarter finals. The last of which sees Donna Vekic and Karolina Pliskova do battle. The Croatian player comes into this match as a narrow favorite, but she'll need to be at her best to defeat Pliskova, who really is rolling back the years this week, delivering the sort of tennis that she played when winning this event back in 2014.
Clearly, I was wrong to doubt the hugely experienced Pliskova, who is proving that Linz is very much a venue where she can still deliver the goods. Having opposed her in each of the last two rounds, I'm now going to side with the Czech player, who is in great form, to defeat her Croatian opponent, who may not be as well prepared for this clash.

You could of course see the fact that Donna Vekic profited from Kalinina's withdrawal as a positive, but she probably needed to get a decent win under her belt to be at her best against a thriving Pliskova. Having played some fabulous clay-court tennis to defeat Alexandrova yesterday, I cannot help but fancy the veteran to win this more than the early odds may suggest that I should.
Vekic hasn't looked too fluent at this tournament, beating lesser players than Pliskova in three sets. In contrast, the Czech player has looked in great shape.
