Having struggled to get going at the ATP event in Rotterdam last week, Grand Slam champion Daniil Medvedev searches for redemption in Doha this week. The Russian has thrived at this event before, winning the title back in 2023, so we shouldn't be surprised if he bounces back here. Facing Medvedev in the first round will be Jenchung Shang, who struggled to cope when last seen at the Australian Open, losing in straight sets to Botic Van De Zandschulp. He's lost two of his last three and hasn't exactly played like a player about to beat the world number 11.
Prior to his defeat in Rotterdam, Medvedev had made quite a strong start to 2026, winning the event in Brisbane, beating several better players than Shang in straight sets. It's thus fair to say that this is a big opportunity for the former tournament winner, who should make light work of reaching the second round.

Our Daniil Medvedev vs Juncheng Shang Prediction
It hasn't been plain sailing for Daniil Medvedev over the last few weeks, but the Russian now has a sizable opportunity to hit the ground running in Doha, where he has previously thrived, winning the tournament back in 2023, as touched on above. Medvedev is simply too good not to be making light work of this task, so much so that odds of -137 look too generous to ignore. Put it this way, if he was coming into this match off the back of a win, he'd be much shorter to get the job done without dropping a set.
Sure, he lost to Ugo Humbert most recently, but Jenchung Shang is not operating at that level, while straight-set wins against the likes of Tiafoe, Fucsovics, Michelsen and Nakashima in 2026 tell me that Medvedev is more than up to getting it done in simple fashion.
Our Daniil Medvedev vs Jenchung Shang Pick: Daniil Medvedev to Win 2-0.
