Daniil Medvedev of Russia looks to punch his way to the quarterfinals of the Dubai Open as he goes up against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in round 2 on Wednesday. Medvedev hacked out a 6-4 7-6(4) win over Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany to advance to the second round in Dubai. The Russian dominated the exchanges, winning 31 points off his first serves and giving zero service breaks. After a see-saw start this season, Medvedev will have an opportunity to post his third quarterfinal stint on the ATP Tour with a win on Wednesday. Facing Medvedev for a seat in the quarterfinals is Giovanni Perricard, who staved of Zhang Zhizhen of China 6-3 7-6 (3). The Frenchman banked on his potent service game to score 13 aces and 42 first-serve points without conceding a service break. Perricard, who begged off from competing in a couple of tournaments due to fitness issues, looked healthy and in tip-top shape against Zhang in their match.
