The NFL season kicks off with a divisional showdown between two rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys, at Lincoln Financial Field. These two squads have a storied history of tough, high-pressure games, and their opener provides no exception.
For Dallas, it's a new chance to get over last year's disappointing 7-10 season finish and end of Mike McCarthy's era. The Cowboys parted ways with last year, with Brian Schottenheimer coming in as coach, looking to establish stability once again for the franchise and find their winning identity once more.
Philadelphia, though, comes to this year with confidence to repeat its defending Super Bowl title wins. Their team has had a solid winning culture since 2021 with Nick Sirianni at the helm, and with their high-powered offense that their superstars front, the Eagles find themselves in the thick of it all to repeat it again.

Dallas Cowboys - Philadelphia Eagles: Form Analysis
The recent history between these two clubs has been one-sided: Philadelphia swept both of their 2024 matchups by a total of 75-13, and that still looms large over Dallas. The Cowboys enter this season in search of fixes on offense and defense. After a non-playoff season for the first time since 2020, Dallas overhauled its roster. A preseason campaign that started with losses to the Rams and Ravens, before salvaging a win against Atlanta, didn't inspire much optimism.
On top of that, the front office sent shockwaves through the league by trading away Micah Parsons, arguably their best defensive player, in exchange for Kenny Clark and draft picks. That transaction puts in front of a defense that was already close to last in scoring last year with even more uncertainty.
Offensively, Dallas has behind center Dak Prescott, Javonte Williams as their new lead back, and a wide receiver corps led by CeeDee Lamb and young receiver George Pickens. It's all set up, but consistency and chemistry are unproven.
Philly's preseason was more consistent, with wins over Cincinnati and the Jets between a loss to Cleveland. More to the matter, however, is that most of last year's Super Bowl-winning offensive firepower is returning for the Eagles.

Dallas Cowboys & Philadelphia Eagles Squad Analysis
Despite changes at offensive coordinator—Kevin Patullo is the fourth in four years—the overall system remains intact behind one of football's strongest offensive lines. Defensively, gaps must be filled after losses of several veterans, most notably Darius Slay and Brandon Graham. But Vic Fangio's system should adapt quickly to younger players, and these Eagles have demonstrated that they can reload on the fly.
This team is going to rely greatly upon personal contributions, with an emphasis on the quarterback position. Dak Prescott remains a capable signal caller, but his consistency is his greatest problem. Since 2020, his average has been only 12 appearances annually.
Success for the season might be his staying healthy and developing chemistry with both Lamb and Pickens, with a possible safety valve in a high-leverage role being tight end Jake Ferguson. The run game that was largely nonexistent last year is Javonte Williams' foundation, with Miles Sanders as the complementary piece. If the run can get going early, it would potentially give Prescott more room from behind to work with the Eagles' aggressive pass rush.
For Philadelphia, Jalen Hurts continues to ascend in his position among the league's top dual-threat QBs. His play-calling of the offense, in conjunction with the new weapon Saquon Barkley in the ground attack, gives Philly a deadly one-two punch.
Add in AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith, and you've got arguably the best set of skill players in the league with the Eagles. On the defensive side, Fangio's scheme leans on young talents like Nolan Smith and Jihaad Campbell to step into bigger roles.
While losing veteran leadership stings, the raw ability of these players could keep the defense solid. The real matchup problem for Dallas will be containing both Hurts' mobility and the physical receiving duo of Brown and Smith. Without Parsons, the Cowboys lack a proven game-wrecker who can single-handedly change momentum.

Our Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles Prediction
Divisional games are notoriously competitive, but with this one, it's possible that it's going to be even more lopsided. Philadelphia roster consistency, championship seasoning, and explosive firepower on offense all tip the scales decidedly their way.
The Cowboys, though, are embarking on a rebuilding phase after they lost key veterans and revamped their staff. While hope is in the Prescott-Lamb-Pickens trio, the line of scrimmage and running threat still must be proven, and it looks thin on defense without Parsons.
Expect Philadelphia to get going early with Barkley to get the front of Dallas loose before they attack matchups in the secondary with Hurts. There are potentially enough explosive plays for the Cowboys to cover to remain in it, but their defense won't last for four quarters to that well-balanced of an offense.
With last year's blowouts and roster changes that further injured Dallas, Philadelphia is poised to start its title defense in definitive fashion. Bet on Philadelphia to blow out at home, continuing their dominance over the Cowboys and issuing an early warning sign to the remainder of the NFC.
Our prediction for the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys: Over 48.5 points.
