by Carlos Zabala in Champions League Picks
So far, Club Brugge of Belgium has had a successful start to the new season, winning three of its last four competitive matches, including a Jupiler Pro League derby against Cercle Brugge. However, none of those victories were as significant as their victory in Austria at the Red Bull Arena against Salzburg, which puts them on the verge of reaching the knockout stages of next season's Champions League play-offs.
Club Brugge won in Austria thanks to a goal from 21-year-old Belgian striker Romeo Vermant. Last season, Club Brugge reached the Champions League round of 16, eliminated Atalanta in one of the most surprising results of that stage, and then was eliminated by Aston Villa. In terms of transfers, in the last transfer window, Club Brugge let De Cuyper go to Brighton for £17 million, and they also let Jashary go to Milan for over €30 million.
After the disappointing result in Austria that could condemn Salzburg to the Europa League in the Austrian Bundesliga, Salzburg got even with Grazers, scoring five goals; one of them was scored by 17-year-old Alajbegovic, and Vertessen scored twice.
However, betting sites are giving little credence to Salzburg's ability to turn the tie around; in Bruges, the Belgian runners-up are emerging as favorites to win on Tuesday.

Our Club Brugge vs Salzburg Prediction
For Bruges, veteran goalkeeper Mignolet is believed to make the save in the return leg against Salzburg. He was key to Austria's clean sheet, making five saves out of five calls. Meanwhile, Salzburg's injury list is extensive; the most significant absence is Karim Konate.
Thomas Letsch is the new manager of the Austrian team, and he takes over at a low point, as Salzburg's run of 10 consecutive Austrian Bundesliga titles was ended by Sturm, the Austrian champions for the last two seasons. Salzburg is also undergoing a generational change, without club legends like Andreas Ulmer who have retired.
Our prediction for Bruges vs Salzburg is: Bruges to win.
