The Minnesota Timberwolves will face the Brooklyn Nets at Target Center on Friday, seeking to finish their regular-season on a high note with their seventh win in eight games.
The T-Wolves are howling into their home court with some traction after going 4-1 in their final road trip. Minnesota is still fighting for an outright playoff spot in the West with only one game separating them from the fourth place Denver Nuggets. Anthony Edwards sizzled anew in Thursday’s 141-135 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. The All-Star dropped 44 points on 13 for 19 shooting to lead the Wolves to a crucial win over Memphis.
The Nets have lost two of their past three games, including a 109-133 blowout at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks. With most of their starters shut down for the rest of the season, the Nets gave other players on their roster a chance to play NBA minutes. One of the beneficiaries was former college star Drew Timme, who tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes.

In their first meeting almost two weeks ago, Minnesota decimated the Nets by 15 points, 105-90, covering a -14.5-point spread. On Friday, Minnesota will be facing -an 18.5-point spread across major sportsbooks in the US. The Wolves are the heavy favorites to win by a significant margin, but I don’t know if they would have the motivation to win by as many as 19 points over the Nets. Contending teams tend to restrict the playing time of their star players, especially if they are leading big, to prevent them from sustaining freak injuries just before the playoffs. I expect Anthony Edwards and other core players to play hard for 30 minutes before the Wolves coaching staff subbed them out if the game turns into a blowout. This would open the door for the Nets shock troopers to get several buckets down the stretch and perhaps help their team come away with an ATS win.
