One of the US players in action on Friday at Wimbledon is Brandon Nakashima, who following a straight-set win during the last round, takes on Frenchman Ugo Humbert. Despite being the much higher-ranked player Humbert is far from a strong favourite here, though I'd argue that he should be. Are we seeing a classic case of the early market overreacting to Nakashima's straight-set win against Thompson? I think so.

This is an interesting match. First of all, there's quite a disparity in rankings. While Nakashima is ranked 65th in the world according to the ATP, Humbert is ranked at 16th. It's quite normal for the betting ahead of matches with this sort of ranking disparity to heavily favour the higher-ranked player, but that's not the case here. The Frenchman is the favourite, but he's only a narrow favourite. I'm arguing that he should be a stronger favourite and thus a bet on him to come out on top offers some value for money. After all, Nakashima has had pretty easy matches so far, matches where his opponents didn't really turn up, so he may not be best prepared for this. In contrast, Humbert has already come through a real test, winning his first match in five sets, while he definitely shifted through the gears last time out. We've seen Humbert beat some top players on grass in recent years and he's the better of these two players as far as I'm concerned and thus deserves more respect. Our Prediction: Ugo Humbert to Win.
