At the WTA event in Dubai, known as the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, two heavy hitters meet on Wednesday. This is a clash between the world number 13 and the world number 9 as Belinda Bencic and Elina Svitolina lock horns. Bencic was a big, big favorite to beat Bouzas Maneiro in the first round, btu she was made to work hard by her lower-ranked opponent, winning a little less easily than the odds suggested she would. After that less than convincing effort, she could struggle to cope with what her Ukrainian opponent has to offer.
Svitolina is a former winner of this tournament, lifting the trophy back in 2018 and 2017, so she clearly knows how to be at her best on these courts. Moreover, she has made a fabulous start to 2026, beating some of the best players in the game, such as Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva. I really wouldn't want to bet against her going deep into the tournament this week, and she can start to do that by beating Bencic.

I must say that this is absolutely a match between two fine players, and I'm certainly a fan of both. However, given how strong she's been at the start of 2026, I am a little surprised that Elin Svitolina is not even shorter than -161 to get the job done here. Not only has the Ukrainian really stepped on the gas in 2026, but she clearly loves the courts in Dubai, where she's won this tournament not once but twice before.
It's also worth mentioning that Svitolina has an excellent recent record against Bencic, who has looked a little shaky in her recent matches.
