The welterweight division has the most talent by far of any division in the UFC. After seeing some of the top starts last weekend of the division try to separate themselves, both Belal Muhammad (24-4) and Ian Machado Garry (16-1) will get a chance to do the same this Saturday.
Belal is coming off a loss to Jack Della Maddalena where he lost his title just over 6 months ago. Before the loss, Belal had won 10 of his last 11 fights with one no contest. He is eager to get a shot to win back his title but a loss here will likely push him back in the standings and a title shot will be a way off in the future. For Ian, this is his chance to prove that he is worthy of the title shot that he has been clamoring for since he defeated Carlos Prates back in April. Prates KO of Leon Edwards last week makes Ian’s victory over him look even more impressive. He will have to contend with Belal’s constant pressure and use his ability to counter if he is going to come out victorious. His 2.5-inch reach advantage should help him in keeping Belal at bay, but will it be enough?

Ian’s only loss came at the hands of Shavkat Rakhonov, who we believe is the true #1 contender in this division. While it is hard to doubt Belal, who seemingly thrives as the underdog, we just do not believe he is going to be able to do enough in this matchup to defeat Ian. We like Ian to use what he should know is a small window to get his title shot and basically treat this fight as just that. We will use his reach and his long kicks to keep Belal away from getting in too deep and should be able to come out victorious in this one.
