This season, Maccabi Tel Aviv is facing more or less the same problems as last year. The team continues to play Euroleague games away from home and without the support of its fans, which is a huge disadvantage. This situation also complicates the club's ability to attract top-level players, despite having managed to put together a respectable roster. Maccabi was eliminated by Hapoel Jerusalem in the semifinals of the Israeli League Cup, but its only victory in the competition so far came against Hapoel. In their last game, Maccabi lost 71-92 to Barcelona on this same court.
Olympiacos, on the other hand, is once again chasing the goal it missed last season: winning the Euroleague. The Greek powerhouse started this season by winning the Super Cup against Promitheas, while in the Euroleague it debuted with a victory over Baskonia, only to suffer a defeat against Real Madrid in the same week. It recovered with victories against Dubai and in the Greek league, but was knocked out again in its last Euroleague game, losing 78-82 to Anadolu Efes.
