Quarter-finalist at the BNP Paribas Open, Arthur Fils has been reassuring himself about his tennis during his Californian escapade. Fils, seeded no.17, is hoping to repeat the feat in Florida, and will face his first test this evening. In his first match, the Frenchman saw his opponent Gabriel Diallo throw in the towel at the start of the second set. Arthur Fils had gotten off to a good start, winning the first set with a level of play that was consistent with that displayed at Indian Wells. But tonight's opponents will be very different, with Frances Tiafoe looking to put an end to the Frenchman's run.

Tiafoe on the other hand, is in trouble in 2025 with one problem: the world's 17th-ranked player has never managed to win 2 consecutive matches in a tournament. Second-round wins in Brisbane, Australia, Dallas, Acapulco, and Indian Wells. This lack of consistency is mirrored by the number 16 seed, which has often shone on home soil in recent years. Frances Tiafoe, who defeated Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first round, will be looking to make it two straight full matches for the first time this season, and Arthur Fils could be the first to pay the price.
