The 48-24-5 Edmonton Oilers will host the 34-40-5 Arizona Coyotes on Friday as they continue their charge towards the top of the Pacific Division. They still have two games in hand and just a four-point deficit to overcome. The Oilers were comfortable 5-1 winners over the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday, even without captain Connor McDavid. Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ryan McLeod all enjoyed two-point nights against Vegas. Draisaitl is now just two points away from 850 in his career and has averaged two points per game in his last 10 at Rogers Place. The Oilers have to play in Arizona next week with two of the three meetings within their final five games of the regular season but that will give them hope that they can still raise a divisional banner.
Arizona did Edmonton a favor on Wednesday when they beat the Vancouver Canucks in overtime to allow the Oilers to close the gap at the top of the Pacific. That makes it three wins in their last four games, the only defeat when they simply failed to turn up in Seattle, beaten 0-5 by the Kraken. They have impressed with their goal-scoring ability of late, averaging 3.08 goals per game this season but 4.50 in their last eight. While that has improved, they are still conceding too many themselves, conceding 3.75 goals per game in that same timeframe. That is going to be a concern heading into Edmonton against a team that put six past them at Mullett Arena earlier in the season. Only the New York Rangers have scored more in Arizona.
