The Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs will complete their weekly schedule with a home-and-home set, starting with the Sabres hosting the first game on Friday at the KeyBank Center.
The Sabres are heading into the matchup with strong momentum, having won three of their last four games. After beginning the season with a three-game losing streak, Buffalo has shown significant improvement lately. On Friday, Lindy Ruff's team has a chance to secure its third consecutive home victory.
While the Sabres are improving, the Maple Leafs have hit a rough patch. The team has suffered two consecutive defeats, dropping Toronto's record to 3-3-1. Friday's outing will be only their second road game of the season, and perhaps a different environment can help the players loosen up and play better.
A 3.43 goals-for average puts Toronto among the league's best offensive teams, but Craig Berube has seen his squad give up 3.57 goals per game. Only five teams have a poorer defensive record in the NHL, and the Maple Leafs' improvement must begin at the back for the team to achieve some level of consistency in its results.

Our Buffalo Sabres vs Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction
The Sabres haven't defeated the Maple Leafs since December 2023, failing to score in two of their last three home games against them. However, they appear to be facing the Leafs at an opportune moment. Toronto is leaking goals and may be even more vulnerable in defense after losing Chris Tanev. The Maple Leafs' blue line might also be without Morgan Rielly, who is considered day-to-day with an undisclosed injury ahead of Friday's game.
Buffalo has its own injury issues, but the team has played well at home since the final few weeks of last season and seems very capable of extending its current winning streak at the KeyBank Center.
Our prediction for Buffalo Sabres vs. Toronto Maple Leafs: Sabres to win.
