The last of the four World Cup quarter-final matches sees Argentina and Switzerland lock horns in Kansas City, where the defending champions will need to improve on their most recent effort if they’re to stay alive.
As they were two goals down against a defiant Egyptian team, the Argentinians looked dead and buried during the Round-of-16, but they fought back late in the game, scoring through Cristian Romero and Lionel Messi to turn the tide, before Enzo Fernandez completed the comeback in stoppage time.
The Swiss weren’t able to score against the Colombians, eventually emerging victorious on penalties, but they’ll surely fancy themselves to expose Argentina’s rather obvious defensive cracks. In fact, at odds of +400, it’s worth betting that they can do just that by taking ‘Switzerland to Score Over 1.5 Goals’.

Argentina - Switzerland: Form Analysis
Nobody can criticize the character and resilience shown by the Argentinians during the knockout stages of this World Cup. They got the job done against Cape Verde, despite being far from at their best, while they could easily have thrown in the towel when the Egyptians made life tough and went two goals to the good, but they stuck to their task and got the job done. For that, they should be applauded. However, we cannot ignore the fact that they’ve been poor from a general performance point of view, especially at the back, where they’ve given far too much away. How much longer can they get away with that?

As far as the Swiss are concerned, well, the groups went relatively smoothly, with Murat Yakin’s men coming out on top on seven points. They then made relative light work of defeating the Algerians, winning by a solid two goals to zero. Facing a high-energy Colombian side was never going to be easy during the Round-of-16, but the Swiss defied the betting market, which favored their opponents, keeping a clean sheet in both regulation and extra time, before showing their grit to win on penalties. They’re strong and they won’t lie down, that’s for sure.

Argentina & Switzerland Squad Analysis
Many head coaches may switch things up after that poor effort against the Egyptians, but Lionel Scaloni seems wedded to his old guard, so we can expect to see the likes of Rodrigo de Paul, Leandro Paredes and Lisandro Martinez in the starting XI ahead of this game. Nicolas Gonzalez played well when coming on as a substitute last time out, but looks set for a role on the bench for the fifth straight game at this World Cup.
Unfortunately, Johan Manzambi, who was having a fine tournament, will miss out thanks to a knee injury. Djibril Sow could be swapped in for Ardon Jashari.
Murat Yakin is also unlikely to make many changes. Ruben Vargas has recovered from a minor issue that threatened to keep him out of the previous game and could now re-enter the starting XI. Key man Dan Ndoye is expected to remain on the other wing. Unfortunately, Johan Manzambi, who was having a fine tournament, will miss out thanks to a knee injury. Djibril Sow could be swapped in for Ardon Jashari.

Our Argentina vs Switzerland Prediction
Make no mistake about it, this is not the best Argentinian team. All too often, Lionel Scaloni’s men have waited for Messi to get out of trouble, while they’ve looked all over the place at the back, so much so that a strong Swiss offense is well worth betting on to profit.
The Swiss have players, such as Dan Ndoye and Ruben Vargas, who can be a real threat on the break, and having seen just how open the Argentinians have been in recent weeks, it really is worth betting that the Swiss can score multiple goals at odds of +400, which are just too generous given what we’ve seen from the two teams in recent games.
Our Argentina vs Switzerland Pick: Switzerland to Score Over 1.5 Goals.

Switzerland to Win
After that comeback against the Egyptians, it’ll take a brave bettor to go against the Argentinians here, but take our advice and be that brave bettor. The defending champions were allowed back into the game against the Pharaohs, but if they defend as poorly against the Swiss, they'll likely go home. Murat Yakin’s men have the tools to do some serious damage on the break, while they’re much better than the Egyptians at digging deep and defending, so don’t be surprised if they upset their opponents in Kansas City.
At the very least, based on what we’ve seen from both at this tournament, the Swiss look generously priced at odds of +500.
