Last season's semifinalist, Iga Swiatek, is determined to win the only Grand Slam title missing from her collection. The Polish player has made a strong start to the year, and the early rounds of the Australian Open have allowed the world number two to warm up before the serious business begins with Saturday's clash. After a narrow victory over China's Yue Yuan (7-6, 6-3) in the first round, Iga Swiatek was much more convincing in the second round, easily dominating Czech player Maria Bouzkova (6-2, 6-3). The Polish player, who is rapidly gaining momentum, will face her first real test of the tournament this weekend against Anna Kalinskaya.

The Russian comes into the third round full of confidence and in peak physical condition. The world number 33 was impressive in her first-round victory over Britain's Sonay Kartal (7-6, 6-1) before doing the same against Austria's Julia Grabher in the second round (6-3, 6-3). A quarterfinalist last season in Australia, Anna Kalinskaya is a serious contender for Iga Swiatek, but the psychological advantage will be on the Polish player's side, having won the last two meetings in 2025.
