At the ATP event in Bucharest, as the quarter finals are getting underway, on Friday, it's Slovakia vs Argentina as Alex Molcan and Mariano Navone go head-to-head. For Navone, this is a chance to move one step closer to reaching the final, much as he did in 2024, eventually losing out to Marton Fucsovics. The Argentine has so far made light work of advancing through the tournament, winning his two matches in straight sets.
However, Navone is not the only player to look in hot form this week, oh no. 28-year-old Molcan likes the clay and is showing that he also likes the conditions in Bucharest, where he is yet to drop a set since qualifying for the main draw. Having defeated players such as Arnaldi and Diallo, the man ranked at 189 in the world should fancy himself to, at the very least, make this a tough test for Navone, and looking at the early lines, that's exactly what I'm betting on him to do.

He's not typically a force at this level, but he's clearly in a good place with his game right now, while he's up against a player who hasn't played much clay-court tennis in recent weeks, a player who despite being very good may not be quite fully at it on this surface yet.
At the very least, Molcan showed more than enough against both Arnaldi and Diallo to tell me that he can push Navone harder than the early odds suggest he will.
