Aleksandar Kovacevic of the United States hopes to replicate his run in Montpellier with another deep campaign at the 2025 Acapulco Open. He’s set to begin his quest against Alan Magadan of Mexico on Saturday. After winning the Oeiras Challenger in January, Kovacevic carried his terrific form into the Open Occitanie in Montpellier, where he went on a giant-slaying run, eliminating established names such as David Goffin, Pablo Carreno-Busta, Matteo Bellucci, Alexander Bublik and Andrey Rublev. He fell short of capturing the title after running out of steam in the final against Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-2 6-7(7) 7-6(2), but that amazing run put everyone on the tour on notice about his caliber as a player. Magadan is fresh off a solid run at M25 Ithaca, reaching the quarterfinal stages where he lost to Alex Rybakov of the United States 7-6(5) 6-2. The 23-year-old Magadan hasn’t played in any Grand Slam or Masters 1000 event yet, so there’s only little information available about him.
