At the ATP event in Houston on Monday, US player Zachary Svajda will be in action. Hoping to make a winning start to the week, the young competitor is up against Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, which could be a problem. It's not that the Paraguayan is ranked much higher than Svajda, nor would you call him a better player overall. However, the Paraguayan has been playing lots of clay-court tennis in recent weeks, which is not something that can be said for Svajda, who hasn't played a competitive clay-court match since May of last year.
What's more, when we last saw Svajda on the clay, he didn't exactly look overly comfortable, winning only two of his last nine matches on the orange surface. In contrast, Vallejo has been winning with regularity on clay, which is hard to ignore, and as he's clearly more up to speed with the type of test that clay presents, he really should get over the line.

Our Adolfo Daniel Vallejo vs Zachary Svajda Prediction
Given that Zachary Svajda has not played any competitive clay-court tennis for the best part of a year, it's more than reasonable to assume that the American will struggle to get going in Houston on Monday afternoon. Sure, this is why Adolfo Daniel Vallejo is the clear favorite in the early betting, though I'd argue that the market is still not pricing this quite right.
As far as I'm concerned, the man who has been playing lots of regular clay-court tennis could easily be -200 to win this match, so odds of -149 are well worth taking. After all, the Paraguayan player has beaten several players not dissimilar to Svajda on clay in recent weeks, so defeating an out-of-sorts clay-court competitor should be well within his reach.
