This Concacaf W Champions Cup has been one of the most exciting editions yet, especially when it comes to the four teams that made it to the semifinals, a 50/50 split between Liga MX Femenil and the National Women’s Soccer League. That sets us up for what could be a very intriguing final. The semifinal matches will take place this Wednesday at Estadio Universitario, and we can’t wait!

The Semifinals

The first matchup features Club América vs. Gotham FC, two teams with strong defensive qualities, which could lead to a low-scoring game. That said, Las Águilas come in with two straight wins and finished at the top of Group B in the group stage. Gotham, on the other hand, has only managed one win in its last five matches, which could give América a slight edge.

In the second semifinal, Tigres will face the Portland Thorns. Expect a tightly contested battle, especially on the attacking end. All of their matches in the group stage ended with over 2.5 total goals. While Tigres may not be playing their best soccer at the moment, scoring remains one of their biggest strengths, especially when playing at home. The Thorns recently beat the Houston Dash 4-1 on the road, which shows they’re in strong form as well.

Bets to Avoid

Women's Champions Cup Semifinal

Without a doubt, the four semifinalists are among the most competitive clubs in Concacaf, both within their domestic leagues and on the international stage. That’s exactly why placing traditional moneyline bets (home win/draw/away win) might not be the best strategy here. For example, while Tigres are unbeaten in four Concachampions games, they haven’t won in their last six Liga MX matches.

And it’s not just Tigres. Club América lost the Liga MX final to Pachuca but topped their group in the Concacaf W Champions Cup. In short, predicting outright winners in these semifinals is tricky, especially since there’s no previous head-to-head history between these teams, and nothing solid to base a winner pick on.

Bets to Consider

For both semifinals, it’s better to focus on goal-related bets: things like over/under 2.5 total goals, both teams to score, first team to score, etc. There are some solid trends to back these types of bets. For instance, all of Tigres’ and Portland’s group stage matches ended with over 2.5 goals, so a high-scoring game is a real possibility.

From a different angle, Gotham FC hasn’t scored in its last three matches, which makes under bets especially appealing in their game against Club América. And don’t forget: in two of América’s last three home games, they’ve won 2–0.
