Team Canada will continue its quest for gold at the 2026 men’s ice hockey Olympic tournament on Friday against Finland in the semifinals at PalaItalia Santa Giulia in Milan.
Following a string of dominant performances at the tournament, Canada was almost shocked by Czechia in Wednesday’s quarterfinal matchup. Jon Cooper’s team needed a late Nick Suzuki goal to extend the game into overtime and won thanks to Mitch Marner’s strike 1:22 into the extra frame.
Team Canada has now scored a whopping 24 goals across four games in Milan, while conceding just six times. Cooper’s men are heavy favorites to progress again on Friday, but the Finns won’t give up on their Olympic dreams easily.
Finland looked to be in big trouble after losing its tournament opener 4-1 to Slovakia. However, Antti Pennanen’s side quickly regrouped and has enjoyed an impressive run of results ahead of the semifinals. Leijonat have won three games in a row with a combined score of 18-3.
An impressive comeback against Switzerland on Wednesday will boost the morale in the Finnish camp ahead of Friday’s game. Additionally, the defending champions may gain encouragement from the potential absence of Sidney Crosby, who suffered an apparent right leg injury in Canada’s quarterfinal victory.

Our Canada vs Finland Prediction
Losing Crosby would be a blow for Canada, but the team is stacked with world-class talent and could still cruise past Team Finland. In the most recent best-on-best event, the 4 Nations Face-Off a year ago, Canada defeated Finland 5-3, with the Nordic nation only making the score respectable with three late goals.
While a low-scoring affair would suit Finland, Canada’s potent offense means Pennanen’s side needs to attack as well -- setting up a potentially high-octane matchup.
Our prediction for Canada vs. Finland: Over 5.5 goals.
