The Western Illinois Leathernecks (0-1 SU, 0-1 ATS) visit the Indiana Hoosiers (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS) in a Friday night contest. After trying and failing to slow down Northern Illinois’ passing attack, Western now faces a different challenge in Indiana’s ground game. The Hoosiers did whatever they wanted on the ground against Florida International, and they’ll probably have just as much success against Western.
However, Indiana could opt to instead test its passing attack, which disappointed against the Panthers. The Hoosiers are going to have to throw the ball against Big Ten defenses, and Western represents the last warmup game on the schedule. The spread will be decided almost entirely by how Indiana chooses to play this game, as the Hoosiers are the far superior squad.

This game appears to be one-way traffic, and the spread reflects that. Western Illinois left the Missouri Valley Football Conference because it had become non-competitive, and the Leathernecks’ 39-point loss to a MAC squad says they’re very capable of losing by well over that against Indiana.
The biggest question is whether Western Illinois gets a touchdown in garbage time and ruins the cover, which is very possible given this large spread. Given that, the safer play is to count on a large number of points. Western Illinois isn’t capable of stopping anyone on defense, and Indiana needs to put a big number on the board after failing to impress its fans a week ago. If the Hoosiers’ team total were on the board, that would make an excellent bet. As it’s not, our prediction for Western Illinois vs. Indiana is Over 52.5.
